James Bernard / Matrices (ASIP036)

ASIP036 Bandcamp DIGITAL Record MockUp.jpg

James Bernard's extensive productions have run the spectrum of electronic music over the past 25+ years. His first outing on ASIP was a delicate modular synth excursion (Atwater, 2019) and his Unreleased Works 1994-1999 (coming to ASIP this Summer, 2021) are a rabbit hole into the Ambient Acid Era.

While we wait for this extensive collection to be presented, James has prepared a very special set of music for Bandcamp Friday which doubles down on his more refined, emotive ambient work. Limiting himself to an OP-1 Synthesizer, and his six-string Bass Guitar, whilst conceptually restraining each track to just five elements, each one focuses on a simple motif, accentuated by further looping to create a mixture of complex melodies and immersive, shifting structures.

Composing this EP helped James calm in a time of uncertainty across the globe. The final title track ‘Matrices,’ is the culmination of those hard emotions and is meant as a call to empathy.

After the success of 2019’s Remote Viewing, I was keen to see James Clements going with his newly established Comit alias, so it was a pleasant surprise when he turned around a very quick successor to his debut album. It may have taken a few years to come to life (as most vinyl releases do) but I’m excited to present another beautiful slice of IDM and early 00’s electronica-inspired music from James, titled An Ocean Of Thoughts.

I’m also pleased to see Nick Brzostowski back on artwork duties. As our first artist we worked with on an ASIP vinyl and a life-long friend, it was only a matter of time before Nick returned with his beautiful, intricate textures, which we first witnessed with Europe, and Markus Guentner’s Theia.

Today we announced a Preorder for a very special collection of Unreleased Works by James Bernard.

Sat in the vaults for over 25 years, these tracks were only previously available to a select few people via CDr, and have become a cherished collection for those in the know. So I am very proud and excited to present the music once again in a more realized format, including 20 tracks as a digital album, and two themed 2LP’s.

Markus Guentner - Overtone (David's Song) [For Charity]

ASIP035 Bandcamp DIGITAL Record MockUp.png

This upcoming Bandcamp Day, March 5th, we have released a brand-new 9-minute track from ASIP faithful, Markus Guentner.

What began as a joke between two friends, ended with Markus Guentner creating a new track entirely from just one instrument all for a good cause.

A normal gift wasn't on the cards for David Westlake's (of Sneaker Pimps) Birthday and instead, he challenged Markus' aversion of the Saxophone to see if he could make a track using this instrument as the only source. The result is, Overtone (David's Song), made of nothing but 100% Saxophone. Whether you can recognize it or not, stylistically it's up there with Markus' best music to date and proof that a limited palette can sometimes bring out the most creative output. The track is only available here on Bandcamp (for Bandcamp Day) to help raise funds and support for Choose Love helprefugees.org - a charity nominated by David Westlake.

We also have some other MG goodies to help bump up the support if you’re quick…

Buy / download on Bandcamp and thank you in advance for all your generosity.

Preorder: One Million Eyes / Brama

Many of you will know I have a fondness for the Balearics; sunsets and lazy mediterranean summers. It was a big part of my musical upbringing and a style of music I still very much enjoy. It's also a musical aspect that the label has yet to explore, so I'm excited to finally present a record that goes some way to being inspired by, or stylistically attached to the times spent watching that golden glow against the horizon.

Today we announce the debut album from One Million Eyes. Previously together as Tempelhof, working with Gigi Masin on albums such as Tsuki (2016), and Hoshi (2014), Luciano and Paolo's new alias represents a progression in musical style and freedom.

Whilst it's easy to describe this album as 'Balearic', it goes much further than your usual stereotype. I feel both light and dark emotions throughout the record and Brama is just their first statement detailing the depth of emotion found amongst their arsenal as One Million Eyes.
