Now Available: 36 / Fade To Grey (Reinterpreted)

36’s cyberpunk-inspired album Fade To Grey is given a deeper, more ambient-leaning reinterpretation. Designed to be listened to as a continuous mix, 36 draws out the rich layers and distant samples into long-form versions of the original dystopian Fade To Grey story.

This was previously only available as a bonus CD with the main Fade To Grey LP, but we have now made limited CD copies available along with the full digital release.

Available on Bandcamp.

Now available: Comit / Remote Viewing

We’re extremely pleased for this one to see the light of day. After hearing James’ music as Comit back in 2016, it was refreshing to hear such a new take on what was previously called “IDM”. Done in a style that only someone like James could achieve he brings a clean, break-beat, heavily melodic approach to the “intelligent” side of electronic music, without using the typical tropes of yester-year.

Given the early inspirations for this sound, we enlisted the man behind many of City Centre Offices releases to master the record, Andreas ‘Loop-O’ Lubich and of course some stunning artwork by our regular contributor Noah M / Keep Adding. One detail, I myself got to provide the original photograph for this record which Noah manipulated to what you see today. It was a shot taken in Tokyo of the neon lights, and I’m sure you can guess where.

Lastly, a big thank you to Heath Looney who helped birth this project for James and had our support in bringing it to life on ASIP.

Remote Viewing is now available with all information, links to buy and listen on the release page.

Pre order: Comit / Remote Viewing

In 2016, we were excited to see a brand new alias from James Clements that took a new direction from his ambient and drum’n bass influenced works as ASC.

Comit debuted on the Short Trips label (read about it here) with three early 90’s / IDM inspired tracks on a beautiful neon yellow 7” vinyl. An immediate throwback to a warm and melodic time, but modernized in a way that only James could.

And for those that might’ve missed it, James released a sneaky Comit remix on our James Bernard remixes EP a few months back.

Following this release, and after three years finessing his first full length after the alias’ debut, we’re overjoyed to present James’ Comit project in full here on ASIP, titled Remote Viewing.

Now available Max Würden / Format

I’ve been a fan of Max Würden’s for a long time now, and he’s pretty much the most consistent contributor to Kompakt’s Pop Ambient Series over the years and one I look forward to hearing the most. No wonder, Max is a talented and skilled producer who finds joy in the details with his own meticulous and unique approach to music. This album is a classic to my own ears, echoing early chill-out era alongside the likes of more epic space-inspired ambient music such as Biosphere and Alva Noto - Format has got a bit of everything.

Format draws from its Latin origin: “formatus”, meaning “to be formed”. Over two years, Germany’s Max Würden produced a variety of tracks using completely different approaches. It wasn’t until they were placed together in unison that the strengths from the variety of productions came together.

Max’s studio recordings lined up alongside live performances; field recordings of foot-steps and sounds from deep forests amongst broken leaves and custom synthesizers; processed guitar-loops weave amongst soaring ambient pads and energetic driving analog pulses segue classic 90’s ambient depicting the very furthest reaches of space. Max's abstract impressions were weaved together and Format was born.

The result captures the very best of Max’s multi-disciplinary techniques we’ve come to admire throughout his many productions and collaborations over the years with the likes of Thore Pfeiffer and his releases on Kompakt’s Pop Ambient series.

Format can be enjoyed as individual tracks, one mixed journey (digital) or as unique mixed-edits for vinyl. Featuring artwork by Noah M / Keep Adding, who unfolds the track’s unique individual elements from the front into one expansive inside gatefold. Mastered by Rafael Anton Irisarri @ Black Knoll Studio.
