Mix - Jenus - The Reverse End

It has been a long time since I’ve featured an unrelated to ASIP mix on the blog. That’s not to say I haven’t been listening, but rather, other than the usual podcasts and mix series I stick to which keep me well and truly fed, I haven’t been drawn away by the kind of passion that used to come from a “blog” -type mix. Mixes that are rare, put together with so much passion and have a personal story behind them are rare to come across nowadays. It’s likely the demise of “blogs” as a whole that contributed to this - but I digress - I stumbled across Jenus’ work this week after someone I follow on twitter shared it.

The Reverse End is not just a mix for mix sake, but as put - “basically something I recorded for myself to listen to on my headphones in private”. The tracklist reads like a true fans obsession over the ambient and electronica genre, featuring artists of new and old, more obscure and more familiar, all put together seamlessly.

Along with it being a highly respectable mix, of course, what struck me was getting halfway through the mix and tracklist, noticing some ASIP tracks included, followed further down the page by a lovely write-up by Jenus. Thank you.

The Time Released Sound Around The World Ambient Program

Time Released Sound are one of the very few labels that go above and beyond when it comes to the physical representation of their releases. So much so, that often, each individual piece is unique and tells its own story. From vintage photographs, to hand-crafted packaging, the TRS label has now gone so far as to include individual themed travel booklets for each CD.

If the packaging alone wasn’t enough to entice the collectors out there, then the music may just be the push you need. I joke, it’s a superb lineup of ambient musicians. From Purl, to Hotel Heon, offthesky & Pleq, and How To Disappear Completely, the compilation captures some of the very best audio travel companions.

…a physical, limited edition, hand assembled version of 125 copies w/factory pressed discs housed in vintage, 60 year old modified travel booklets. Each of these colorful 40+ page booklets from the 50’s is part of a series of 75, and is dedicated to the history and customs of a particular country. Each booklet has been reconstructed, printed in, and is sewn and rebound with additional vellum maps, atlas pages, vintage hand written sheet music, and cards from an antique travel game. Each “mail art” booklet is shipped in a seriously artified and hand-stamped 7’’x 9” cardboard mailing envelope, is hand addressed and labelled with a mix of old and new postage stamps, that are cancelled by hand.
