GASTÓN ARÉVALO / Uruguay
Isolationism, nature and literary texts are just some of the fundamental elements inspiring Gastón’s rich and textured ambient soundscapes.
Often embellished with field recordings and vivid abstract textures, Gastón’s productions bridge a gap between refined electro-acoustics and more traditional instruments such as processed Guitars or the classical Viola.
With a sound that could be described as the epitome of Pop Ambient - rich, warm and often melodic - Gastón’s music has been supported by producers in the same world such as ASIP’s Markus Guentner and has presented his work live at the Arquitectural De Stijl icon De Unie (Rotterdam, NL) and festivals such as Todays Art (Den Haag, NL) and Lab30 (Augsburg, DE).
Gastón’s notable debut full length on Oktaf (2013), was preceded by a cassette release on the Tapeworm Label (2012) and after a six-year hiatus, presents his new concept album ‘Terrain’, on A Strangely Isolated Place. This period of time allowed Gastón to develop his interest in new formats such as installations, where code, visual work and sound come together as one.
