German techno/house producer, Sven Weisemann is in the running for the ‘where the hell did that come from’ award of 2011. His release as ‘Desolate’ is a wonderfully crafted piece of atmospheric dub techno that is easily one of the best albums I’ve heard this year. Mark my words, this will be in plenty of people’s best of 2011 come December.
‘The Invisible Insurrection‘ is a deep cavernous journey through some of the most intricate ambient textures, with beats and synths melting amongst delays, gentle pianos and the odd Burial ‘esque vocal samples. This isn’t an attempt to replicate the mysterious dubstep mogul, ‘The Invisible Insurrection’ is on a completely new level. Sven may only be 26 years old, but his sound is the more refined, calmer and intelligent dub-techno brother to London’s flourishing dub-step guru.
The best £7 you’ve ever spent.
For those that scrolled this far, there’s an added treat. Northernshore aka Matthias Rock (curator of the bvdub and Echospace tributes) provides us with a continual mix of Desolate and Sven Weisemann tracks. I feel a little guilty posting this as it contains all of the tracks from the album, so to help me sleep tonight make sure you purchase the Desolate album, right after being blown away by Matthias’ selection of course. Big thank you to Pete Srdic for the link to this one.

The odd thing about the album (or at least when I ordered it), you could only buy it on vinyl, and it came with the CD of it as a bonus. Have to say though – it’s exactly the sort of album, that you’d want, as a tactile vinyl experience.
This is a real treat, def album of the year so far for me too, and Rock’s mix beautifully extends the deal. Good on you for sharing this Ryan. People really need to know about it as I think it has largely flown under the radar.

Posted by Dave | April 2, 2011, 2:09 amYou said it perfectly when you described the album as:
“…in the running for the ‘where the hell did that come from’ award of 2011.”
Will definitely be picking this one up!
