Today I stumbled across a mix that led me to discover a Slovenian barrage of quality electronic music…
Octex’s 2006 mix for Filter 27 popped up in my feed again, after being re-posted due to its popularity on the site. A mammoth 70 tracks long, the Slovenian producer takes us on a long ambient & techno journey, and ends on a surprising choice of dub tracks. The last 60 minutes wasn’t that great for me, but the first half featured some killer tracks from Alva Noto, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Biosphere and Yagya, along with the more lively Plastikman, Carl Craig, Martin Buttrich and AFX propping up the second hour. One of my favourite dubstep producers, Geiom, even made an appearance. See the full track listing and download the mix below.
This mix led me to explore Octex a little further, as a few of his tracks were included in the mix and sounded a tad nice. Turn’s out his productions feature on a series called ‘Chilli Space‘, a yearly compilation of dub techno, dub-step, ambient and experimental music featuring a wealth of Slovenian artists and some seriously good electronics. Reminding me of early Traum Schallplatten records, the first compilation was put together back in 2002 and January 2011 has just seen the 7th release. I’m just going through each of the releases on Bandcamp at the moment, but purchasing and then a never-ending tunnel of Slovenian artist exploration is just around the corner… Listen to/download them all over on Bandcamp.
One artist I’ve already started to dive into from the Chilli Space comps is Ago Tela. I’m still scratching the surface of these guys, but I quite enjoyed this video of them getting down in their studio with a deep and dirty techno track.
