D_rradio have only had a fleeting existence on this blog, with a single appearance on the Intelligent Toys compilation, ‘We Make Music’. ‘Death Row Radio’s’ 2007 self titled album has undeservedly sat quiet in my library for some time now, until I heard a new release was due. I then decided to revisit the Geordie trio in a hope to spur me on to buying their new album ‘parts’.
Whilst the 2007 D_rradio album stirred feel good experimental, electronica, neat guitars and abstract drums, their latest album ‘parts’ features nineteen glorious ambient moments, delivered as 1-3 minute bitesize (you guessed it) parts. Beautiful drones, gentle melodies and vintage crackles are mixed upon melancholic and dramatic contemporary pieces. Where many ambient albums fail to keep pace throughout, ‘parts’ weaves in and out of emotional soundscapes keeping me entertained until the very end. Here are three of the longer ‘parts’ from the album for you to enjoy, taken from Distraction Records Soundcloud. Let me know what you think of them.
